IDAHO
Year After
Year
A
SHAPELY, fuzzy, feedback tinged guitar floats serenely - and strangely -in a blue
sky. The musical style favoured by Idaho has much in common
with the landscape of the American state whose name they bear, mellow and spacious,
the sound builds up slowly to form the kind of sonic shapes, images and even textures
that intrigue and fascinate. The vocals are well rounded and never forceful, serving
only to justify the underlying music and to provide something of a direction -
not that anyone really cares where this six string spaceship is heading.
Soothing yet never numbing, ”Year After Year” is all
about continuity and calm. A gorgeous record.
